PurelyAlpaca.com Offers the Alpaca Research Rug to Support Research
Battle Ground, WA (PRWEB) November 1, 2007 -- PurelyAlpaca, a online and catalog luxury clothing retailer, is proud to announce the expansion of the Alpaca Research Rug Project. The Research Rug is proving to be a Magic Carpet. As word spreads of the research rug program, more and more ideas are coming up for this unique alpaca fiber creation which benefits alpaca research.
PurelyAlpaca.com created this novel program to fill multiple needs. First, there was an excess of leftover or "trash" alpaca fiber shorn from areas of the animal not used for luxury clothing. Second, the alpaca research school at Washington State University was in need of continued funding to support training of future veterinarians and for ongoing alpaca research. PurelyAlpaca put these two ideas together to collect, produce and market high quality floor rugs for the home.
Made in the USA by Reinhard, an Austrian immigrant with 4-5 employees in a tiny factory on a dusty stretch of highway in the middle of the Texas plains, each rug is a work of art from this long time extraordinary rug weaver. The tiny factory sells its All American made goods to 300 outlets around the world including stores like Ethan Allen. The factory ships these soft rugs to the finer shops of Europe. One of the rugs "will probably outlast you," says Reinhard.
The natural fiber is spun around a jute core, which given the rug years of durability and also has the advantage of being reversible. Since the fiber has its natural color, it resists fading and wear and also provides a certain amount of sound proofing.
The program is looking for expanding avenues to increase awareness. We encourage those interested to contact PurelyAlpaca to purchase a rug and offer their ideas.
Proceeds from rug sales on PurelyAlpaca.com benefits alpaca research and the training of new veterinarians.

Alpaca Scales used for Dual Purposes
Alpacas are animals that are closely related to llamas, and less closely related to camels. They originated in South America, especially in the Andes Mountains where their meat, and more importantly, the fiber from their coats was highly prized. Alpacas are raised by thousands of breeders, owners and small farmers in the United States. The animals are considered by some to be pets, by others to be a source of valuable fiber to be sheared and sold, and by others as in investment.
